Ayr 1st and 2nd XVs had differing fortunes against Currie Chieftains at Millbrae on Saturday, with an agonising defeat in the BT Premiership and a joyous win in BT National Reserve 1.

Chieftains gained their revenge with a 14-12 win in the 1st XV match after two losses to Ayr earlier in the season. For the home team, George Stokes and Robbie Smith claimed the tries, with Scott Lyle kicking one conversion. Read more in the match report.

The 2nd XV had a nail-biting match with Chieftains A that went right down to the last kick of the game. James Armstrong's penalty sealed the win for Ayr, 18-17. Armstrong had earlier scored a try, as had Johnny McCorkindale and Cam Reece.

In the preliminary round of the national cup, Ayr-Wellington U18 boys beat Earlston High-Melrose Wasps 48-8 on the 3G pitch at Marr College Playing Fields.
