Ayr Rugby Football Club

Seven young Ayr players will be involved with the Scottish Rugby BT Sport Academy this season.

Stafford McDowall continues as a stage 3 full-time player, with Robbie Smith moving up from stage 2 to join him. New Millbrae men George Stokes, Euan McLaren and Robbie Nairn are also stage 3 players. Paddy Dewhirst and Ayr-Wellington U18s' Scott Clelland are academy-supported players, meaning they will continue their club and youth rugby whilst receiving additional support. Read more from Scottish Rugby.

Meanwhile, our youth teams continue to progress in their national conferences. Weather disrupted the girls' fixtures on Sunday, with some of the boys' school games were postponed too due to waterlogged pitches.

This weekend, the Shogun Conference matches are against Hamilton (away), with the Barbarian Conference matches against Balfron-Strathendrick (home) and the Mirage Conference fixtures against Stirling County (home - fixtures swapped due to refurbishments at Bridgehaugh).

There has been a great turn-out at the U15 and U18 girls' training at Millbrae in the past few weeks. If you know any young female players who would like to give rugby a go, send them along to training on Mondays, 5.30pm-6.30pm, and they will be welcomed by the squads and coaches Catherine Shennan and Connie Griffiths.
