Ayrshire Bulls Head Coach Peter Murchie is moving onto the Glasgow Warriors coaching team as an Assistant Coach.

The former Scotland and Glasgow Warriors back joined Ayr Rugby back in the 2017/18 season as an assistant, became Head Coach of the Ayr 1st XV for the 2018/19 season, leading the team to a famous double, winning the League and Cup. This was the second time in the club’s history that this success was achieved. The first coach to do this was Kenny Murray, with whom Peter will now be coaching with at the Warriors.

After becoming Head Coach of the Ayrshire Bulls, who play in Scottish Rugby’s new FOSROC Super6 competition, Peter worked hard to grow a new team and develop players both for the Ayrshire Bulls and to move onto the pro ranks. One of the aims of FOSROC Super6 is to produce players and coaches for pro rugby, and everyone at the Ayrshire Bulls and Ayr Rugby is delighted to see Pete progress to the next level in his coaching career.

Peter said, “I just want to thank Ayr rugby club for the last few years, firstly working with Ayr RFC in the Scottish Premiership as an assistant and then as Head Coach, with the obvious highlight being the League and Cup double. Great memories! Then moving onto the Super6 with Ayrshire Bulls allowed me to focus on being a Full-time coach. I really hope that the clubs can get back playing asap but only when it is safe to do so and the Super6 can fulfil its potential.”

“As with any great club it is the people that you will miss the most, so to all the staff, volunteers, sponsors and players, thank you for all you do and will continue to do in the future. Moving to Glasgow Warriors is an exciting opportunity for me and I will do everything possible to keep improving as a coach and add value in my new role. Game days at Ayr have a great buzz and the supporters play a huge role in that. I look forward to catching a game at Millbrae when we are able to”.

Billy McHarg, Ayrshire Bulls CEO, said, “It is no surprise to me that Peter is now joining Glasgow Warriors as Assistant Coach. During his time with Ayrshire Bulls and Ayr RFC he has been an excellent Head Coach who built on his work ethic and attention to detail. Peter was well liked at the club and we wish him well. Glasgow Warriors’ gain is Ayrshire Bulls’ loss. However, we would never stand in the way of a coach or player progressing into any professional set up from our FOSROC Super6 team”.

With plans in place for FOSROC Super6 starting this year, the Ayrshire Bulls have started the recruitment process for a new Head Coach.
