Earlier today Team GB Rugby Sevens unveiled their initial training squads for the truncated 2020 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in Tokyo later this year. Former Player and now Club XV assistant coach Robbie Fergusson headlined a shimmer of pink throughout the announcement, which also included 2019 draft player Paddy Kelly.

Fergusson, the current Scotland 7s captain, is a man who needs no introduction to the Ayr faithful. A local boy who soared through the youth ranks to become an integral cog in the 2013 league and cup double squad, later found even more success in numerous professional outfits. He is currently plying his trade at Scotstoun and has been influential in the Glasgow Warriors efforts this season.

The 27-year old took the reins of the Club XV assistant coach role last season, working under his old teammate and mentor Stuart Fenwick.

Kelly was a draft pick for Ayr in 2018/19 season and quickly solidified himself among the squad ranks. He featured heavily throughout the season and was instrumental in the team securing all domestic honors up for grabs.

Scott Forrest, another former Millbrae man, is currently Head Coach of Team GB Women and also unveiled his training squad for the Olympics in July.

Forrest also found league and cup success with Ayr over a decade ago and enjoyed a second serving of silverware as assistant coach in 2017.

Ayr Rugby would like to wish the best of luck to all three in the next stage of training.
